Interactive Media Analysis Tool, Editorial Simulation

Where does your own opinion begin, and when do the media begin to shape it? Every day we encounter headlines and news reports that shape the topics discussed within our society. Mass media do not simply inform; they set agendas, reinforce narratives and influence what is considered socially relevant. Long before a news story reaches us, decisions have already been made: What will be shown? Who will be featured? Who will be held responsible? And what will remain hidden? DarkMode brings these selection processes to life and invites visitors to question media coverage more critically. Visitors are encouraged to consume news not only in terms of what is shown, but also in terms of what is missing. Through interactive installations, the project examines how information is filtered, selected and framed, and how this shapes public perception. In doing so, it reveals how much information never makes it into the mass media, how quickly selection gives rise to a media narrative, and which actors bear responsibility in current debates or are able to evade this attribution.
